Is it worth buying a second hand upright piano?

I want an upright piano but don't really want to spend too much
because I have never played much. Is it worth getting a second hand
one and getting it tuned?
What should I be looking at if I go to get one that is second hand? I
wouldn't really know whether or not one is in bad condition except for
the wood.
