Glee Club TV Competition Shows in Copyright Infringement Dispute
Fox Searchlight's Shame opens Dec. 2 with a restrictive NC-17 rating, but that may be a good thing for similarly classified films in the future.our editor recommendsNudity, Three-Ways, Hints of Incest: A Studio's Plan to Sell 'Shame' to Oscar'Shame' Officially Rated NC-17FEINBERG FORECAST: Can 'Shame' Crack the Major Categories Despite NC-17 Rating? National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) president John Fithian tells the Associated Press that the Steve McQueen-directed drama "is potentially an important step in the legitimate use of the NC-17." STORY: Nudity, Three-Ways, Hints of Incest: A Studio's Plan to Sell 'Shame' to Oscar "There just aren't very many movies released in the NC-17 rating anymore. We get maybe one or two a year. Filmmakers and movie studios are inappropriately afraid of the rating." Fithian reveals that in a recent survey, 97 of 100 theater owners said they would play an NC-17 movie. He argues that filmmakers and studios should embrace, not fight, the classification, "What we currently have is a system that's slightly flawed in the reluctance of filmmakers and distributors to use the NC-17. PHOTOS: 'Shame' Star Carey Mulligan at THR's Actress Roundtable "What they'll do is cut and trim and try to cram a movie into the R rating category so that it escapes the NC-17, and that's not a legitimate use of the system. We end up with a very broad R category." Box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian thinks Shame can capitalize on its uncommon status. He told AP, "R-rated movies are a dime a dozen. If Fox Searchlight can harness the power of the NC-17, they can turn it into a plus." VIDEO: 'Shame' Director Steve McQueen at THR's Directors Roundtable The MPAA said that the drama earned the rating because of "some explicit sexual content," which includes full-frontal nudity, oral sex performed on men and women, and group sex. Joan Graves, head of the group's ratings system arm, believes the "stigma" of NC-17 is due in part to negative press. She told AP, "I've always considered it a shame that for some reason some people consider it (a death sentence), and I blame the media in a way because they always act like it's gotten the kiss of death." "I think NC-17 is a badge of honor, not a scarlet letter. We believe it is time for the rating to become usable in a serious manner," Searchlight president Steve Gilula told The Hollywood Reporter. "The sheer talent of the actors and the vision of the filmmaker are extraordinary. It's not a film that everyone will take easily, but it certainly breaks through the clutter and is distinctive and original. It's a game changer." Glam Slam: The Friday Five - Holiday Hair Tricks
First Published: November 18, 2011 1:26 PM EST Credit: WireImage LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Sarah Michelle Gellar arrives at the TCA Party for CBS, The CW and Showtime held at The Pagoda on August 3, 2011 in Beverly HillsWere less than a week away from the big Thanksgiving weekend, which kicks off the busy holiday party season. Need some inspiration for your party-worthy do? Check out these easy holiday hair tricks featured in the new issue of InStyle magazine. ADD A BITTY BRAID When a last-minute invite lands in your lap, go with a braid, like Sarah Michelle Gellar. For a loose, boho style, dry damp hair with a diffuser. Gather a chunk from either side of your part, braid it back, then twist into a loose bun, allowing a few strands to fall out and frame the face. Dont worry if the braid or the bun is slightly messyundone hair is a beautiful contrast to a fancy dress or gown. FAKE A BOB Think of this sexy fake-out as reverse extensions: By altering your length, you get a completely new look (like Taylor Swift)no haircut required. To create it, blow-dry hair, curl the ends under with a skinny curling iron, then brush out the ringlets to soften the texture, says Larry Sims, Gabrielle Unions hairstylist. Back-comb, starting at the ends, and work halfway up the strands; then tuck it under to desired length and secure with U-shaped bobby pins. Final step: Gently tug hair out from pins to create the bob shape. ADD BANGS Sporting a temporary fringe will dramatically update your style. Plus, bangs make everyone look younger, says Wella Professionals hairstylist Andy LeCompte, who works with Penelope Cruz and Nicole Richie. The key to pulling them off? Ask your stylist to custom trim the bangs for your face, he says. Make a center part, slide them on top (about an inch from the hairline). Flat-iron the crown section and pull your hair up into a high pony. BUMP A BUN TO THE SIDE A side updo isnt just easyits also way more flattering than a traditional updo for most people. Separate the tail into two sections; wrap each around the base of the ponydo one clockwise and the other counterclockwise. Anchor hair with pins, hiding the ends under the coils. Pull and spread the chignon to create a messy cluster behind the one ear, says celebrity stylist Creighton Bowman. GET SLEEK A mini pompadour with sleek sides creates a fashion faux hawk. To start, apply a lightweight gel to damp hair or use a molding paste if your hair is thick. Brush strands back and let air-dry. Then brush through hair again and add a generous spritz of hairspray to hold. For more style tips, the December issue of InStyle is on newsstands today. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. 'J. Edgar' Movie Math: How Clint Eastwood Might Have Developed His Latest Film
Audiences were not wild about 'J. Edgar' over the past weekend. Opening on approximately 1,900 screens, the Clint Eastwood-directed biopic gained $11.4 million, mediocre enough for fifth place. ('J. Edgar's' per-screen average was $6,005, under the per-screen average of 'Jack and Jill' and 'Puss in Boots,' for reference.) Experts were not that excited either: on Rotten Tomato plants, 'J. Edgar' were built with a 40 % Fresh rating, using it componen with 'Immortals' (39 percent) and 'In Time' (38 percent). Not the kind of reception an alleged Oscars contender is suppose to get! Why did audiences and experts somewhat reject the most recent Leonardo DiCaprio film? Possibly because they have seen the majority of it before. Ahead, a short consider the movie math behind 'J. Edgar.' [Click for bigger] Oscar Bait (20 %): Ahem. 'Brokeback Mountain (17 %): The forbidden romance between Hoover and the companion Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer) isn't consummated onscreen, however it certainly recalls the unrequited moments between Ennis Del Marly and Jack Twist. Silly Putty (16 percent): As Armie Hammer told Moviefone, "It isn't just a little makeup, I'll tell you just how.Inch Preach, Armmie! 'The Notebook' (13 percent): Toward the finish of the lives, Hoover and Tolson have a little of Allie and Noah inside them, especially -- SPOILER -- when Tolson tearfully hugs Hoover's dead body. 'Psycho' (11 percent): Dame Judi Dench plays Hoover's domineering and repressive mother, the kind of lady who casts this type of large shadow over her son's existence he dons her dress after she dies. She wouldn't even harm a fly. 'The Aviator' (10 %): Leo being an eccentric and tragic historic figure? It's the clear way of the near future. 'Watchmen' (9 %): In the strange pewter-y filter that Eastwood affects over everything towards the absurd Richard Nixon impersonator that comes to the ultimate twenty minutes, all that's missing from 'J. Edgar' is Dr. Manhattan's giant blue penis. 'Mommie Dearest' (4 %): You will find some high camping moments in 'J. Edgar,' possibly none more absurd than when Hoover pleads with Tolson to look at his ft following the latter guy smashes a glass inside a fit of jealous rage. It is not "No wire wardrobe hangers!" (what's?), but it is certainly within the same realm. Cake chart produced by Catarina Ferreira [Top Photo: Warner Bros.] Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook

Saturday Night's Large Fight: Boxing versus. UFC
Saturday evening's okay for fighting, is when the song goes, and tonight marks a unparalleled clash between boxing and mma that starts on tv at 6 p.m. Off-shore time.our editor suggests UFC Getting Pay-Per-View Occasions to TheatersUFC Leader Calls Fox Deal a 'Milestone' for that SportEminem Boxing Drama 'Southpaw' Back in line at New MGM With what needs to be looked at the greatest prize fight of 2011, Manny Pacquiao faces Juan Manuel Marquez for that third amount of time in their careers. The match, for Pacquiao's World Boxing Association welterweight title, is survive Cinemax pay-per view ($65 for that high-definition broadcast) in the MGM Grand Garden in Vegas. Meanwhile, on free TV, Fox may have the very first Ufc bout ever to air on the broadcast network in primetime. Your dream, between heavyweights Cain Velasquezand Brazilian Javier Dos Santos, happens in the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The MMA fight can serve as an appetizer for that $700 million Fox-UFC seven-year deal that begins in The month of january and brings the frequently violent sport - featuring aspects of boxing, wrestling, boxing, judo, etc. - in to the mainstream (a minimum of the UFC hopes so). Fox will broadcast four primetime fights annually, another six will air on sister cable network Forex, and also the reality show Ufc's Ultimate Figher moves from Spike to Fox cable included in the deal. On Saturday, Fox cable outlet FuelTV has hrs of analysis prior to the Velasquez-Dos Santos fight on large Fox, and various Fox personalties - from National football league of Fox analyst Michael Strachan to Sons of Anarchy stars - may be available for that bout. There's a way of thinking that curiosity about boxing is waning while mma is attaining. All of the large boxing matches take presctiption PPV, as the UFC, which does about one PPV event per month, is getting into free TV the very first time. Pacquiao's previous fight, in May against Shane Mosley on Showtime PPV, introduced within 1.4 million PPV buys. A Terra Nova rerun on Fox last Saturday in the same time frame slot because the UFC bout attracted 1.9 million homes Fox might be searching at triple that audience tonight. "When the pay-per-view model arrived on the scene, boxing stopped putting large fights on free TV, and i believe it broken the activity,Inch UFC leader Dana Whitened told reporters this month. "So our goal would be to bring large free fights to television." He acknowledged the UFC is certainly going "to consider popular around the pay-per-view side for any large fight such as this. But we're thinking lengthy-term for future years from the sport and making the activity bigger." Related Subjects

Counting Down to Kiefer Sutherland's Touch: The 6 Ways It Could Remind You of 24!
David Mazouz and Kiefer Sutherland Still dissecting the trailer for Fox's Touch? Frustrated you can't start an actual countdown to the return of Kiefer Sutherland because the show still doesn't have an airdate? You're not alone. Fox makes Kiefer Sutherland's return to primetime official The upcoming drama from Heroes boss Tim Kring stars 24's Sutherland doing what he does best: making sure the world doesn't self-destruct. Standing in for Jack Bauer is Touch's Martin Bohm, widower and father to a mute son, Jake. The problem? Jake harbors the uncanny ability to connect patterns and discover the meaning behind seemingly unrelated events happening all over the world.... In other words, he can predict when bad stuff is going to go down, among other things, and his dad Martin's the one who will have to deal. (Get ready for emotional Kiefer, world!) Just for kicks - and because we still miss 24 - let's count the ways Touch, without meaning to, will continue its legacy, using the trailer as our guide: Problematic kids: Sure, Kim Bauer got kidnapped. (Several times.) Sure, she dropped out of school to become an au pair, and later got caught in a cougar trap. But she could scream and call her dad for help. Martin's son Jake doesn't talk at all. So when Jake gets a hankering to climb cell towers (which look really tall in that trailer!) at 3:18 p.m. on a daily basis without communicating why... well, it would appear Kiefer's TV offspring are forever cursed. "Dammit!": Sources say Martin will unleash one in the first episode of Touch. That's what these kids - and the fate of the world - will do to a guy. Suicide bombers: Yes, seriously. There's one - a young one - in the pilot for Touch. Whether or not Martin is the guy to defuse the situation... but who else is going to, right? Cell phones: From the looks of things, they'll command a starring role in Touch, handy for preventing disasters foreseen by Jake. With any luck, they'll be as good as Jack Bauer's supermobiles, which grabbed signals from the bowels of the deepest terrorist hangouts, instantly transmitted codes, uploaded maps and all other manner of life-saving, key-decrypting intel. Oh, would it were that our iPhones came equipped with 1,000,000,000G technology. "NY": Like in 24's 8th season, Los Angeles stands in for the Big Apple in Touch too! A ticking clock: Martin's racing to stop these events from happening (or to make sure they happen correctly). He's racing to figure out what his son is trying to tell him. He's racing to solve the world's mysteries. Kiefer will never stop running. Never! Touch will premiere on Fox next spring. Here's the trailer for your re-viewing pleasure:
